Scenario: Insect Civilization

From Future

Jump to: navigation, search

Around the year 4000 A.D., humans will finally leave Earth forever, turning it into a natural preserve. 200 million years later, a group of termites evolve into a Bronze Age civilization. This insect civilization will have windows and a complex system of air conditioning (as the planet at this time will consist of a single continent dominated by a desert climate). Algae (food) will be herded from nearby desert creatures and water will be found deep underground in caves.

Unlike the human civilization of the future, this civilization will have many castes, and the idealism of democracy or even monotheism are unlikely to develop as scientific progress is greatly delayed due to an excess amount of workers and an exceedingly small amount of intellectuals and aristocracy. Insects tend to rule with an absolute monarchy, and sentient insects will most likely be no exception.

Someday, maybe insects will see this when exploring ruins of the civilization of giants known as "humans." They will find the letters much too big to read with their little insect eyes, but with their little insect God willing, they will create a Rosetta Stone to translate this message into their little insect language.
