RyansWorld: Mennonites and the Amish in the Future
From Future
As the world turns more computerized and less Christian, the Mennonites and the Amish of the future will slowly accept the automobile, electricity, trousers and T-shirts for women, telephones, photographs, computers, and the Internet in their lives. Even the more modern Mennonites and Amish feel like they're on the "losing team" because of frivolous religious laws (not allowed to spend money on Sundays, can't get pregnant without being married first, women must become housewives). These idealism will be seen as a sign of patriarchal Christianity and will be abolished when Christianity is. By the 22nd century, even the most conservative Mennonite community will have the technology level of a typical rural household of that time era.
Eventually, the Mennonite people and the Amish will have to reinvent their faith to absorb the best of the values, principles, and belief systems of Buddhism in order to create Neo-Mennonitism, a Mennonite faith designed to cohabitate with 22nd century life (not oppose it). This will occur because Christianity will eventually suffer a terminal downfall and Buddhist temples in the countryside will take over decades after the rural chapels of Christianity close down permanently.
